A
resin Speed Racer Mach 5 kit, from Streamline Productions
(now out of business).
If I remember right I bought a set o DVDs for the animated series (in the 1990s) and there was a phamplet with information about buying these kits.
I don't know how people found out about them otherwise - and I don't think there are many of these kits out there to find now.
It's
a pretty good kit. A heavy solid resin example, with the resin
being somewhat soft, or "sand" like in composition.
I painted mine Testors Bright White.
The
kit didn't require any donor parts to build. It came with
the saws in the front, though they are static. I chose to
build the kit with them installed. Both the saws and wheels
are metal (white metal?). The front headlamps covers and
windshield are vacuum formed.
It's
a curbside as well, there's no "hood" to speak
of. The decals were included and went on nicely.
The
Mach V was one of those cars that always needed to be in
kit form, I am surprised it took so long for one to be made,
even if it is resin.
Over
time (decades) the vacuum formed windshield has turned yellow.
I may need to try and make a replacement.
This
example is actually a little larger than the newer Polar
Lights Mach 5 (compared below). Those kits are probably
more around 1/32 scale. The box of the Streamline kit says 1/25 but I think it is closer to 1/24.
