An
AMT Ford Mustang kit
This
is a built Ford Mustang kit.
This is the 1971 to 1973 body style, this one is a Mach 1.
First of all this is an old kit. I will also add that it seems to share parts with other versions of the AMT kit and MPC's 1971-1973 Ford Mustang kit.
There are mutiple extra parts in the box. Including various engines and race parts - such as a roll cage. One of the extra engines is a Boss 429. I'm not sure if all the parts to the engines are there - I didn't try and assemble any of them - so they may not be complete. Not all the numbers in the printed directions seemed to match up to what the diagrams called out.
So you have to pay special attention on what parts to use when building the model.
The model includes white wall tires but I swapped those for some AMT tampo printed white letter tires for a more sporty look.
Even though I've built versions of this AMT Mustang and the MPC one as well over my lifetime I was disappointed in this combination of parts that seemed to come from both kits.
I painted the car Tamiya Red white a Tamiya white interior. Obviously from such an old kit the fit was far less than perfect and it was struggle to get some of them to fit.
The chrome was good, the decals were good. The overall shape of the body was ok. It captured the unique body style.
The engine didn't seem to have any real mounting other than for the transmission tail shaft.
I am not sure I would build another one - but for now it's the only game in town for a 71-73 Mustang except for the future upcoming Revell Mustang for 2023-2024. (or if you can find a Testors metal and plastic Mach 1 kit - the best kit of this style Mustang ever made so far in my opinion).
I know Round2 didn't make this kit - they inherited it from previous owners of AMT and MPC. But I think it's run it's course. |
