AMT made two versions ofthe 1966 Ford Fairlane model kits.

One is a GTA, with a 390 V8. The other one, shown here, is the 427 V8 offering. Both the 390 and the 427 are Ford FE engine blocks, so in that respect, especially in a model, they look nearly identical.

The 427 version model has some different parts, such as the "poverty caps" hub caps, steel wheels, a few different parts for the engine, and a different hood.

The kits build up pretty much the same though.

I've built several of these cars, and they're good subjects to make. Though it's a very tight tolerance to get the body, interior tub, and the chassis to all jive together and fit well.

Below is the 427 engine and manual transmission.

There were a couple of parts I didn't want to be chromed. Namely, the intake manifold and the Cobra style air cleaner. So I used Purple Cleaner to strip them of chrome. I takes about 15 minutes. By stripping the chrome off, the parts are easier to prime and paint later.

The body was painted Tamiya White. Note the special hood for this 427 version.

The interior was painted red, probably a Tamiya color. I used the chome valve covers which I thought looked pretty good. The engine bay is a good example for the Fairlane.

The chassis was painted white to match the car. Different silver and metallic paints were used to acent the look. The dual exhaust is a separate piece on it's own.

These AMT Fairlanes are good kits, but they were also offered as promo cars too at one tme. Which means you end up with a radiator support core that has two large cylinderical additions to it.

On a promo car, those would be used to hold screws which helped the promo car stay together. Here they've been molded closed without screw holes, but are still ugly, and not very accurate.

I chose to use some sheet styrene and cut out my own radiator core support.

The engine bay looks great. Note the windshield washer bag which Revell provides a decal for.
