A7 Corsair II aircraft models.
The Vought A-7 Corsair II was designed and built in the early 1960s to meet the requirements of the US Navy for a new carrier-supported attack plane.
The A-7 Corsair IIs replaced the A-1 Skyraiders which had a radial piston motor and the A-4 Skyhawk jets.
The carrier fighter aircraft Vought F-8 Crusader developed into the A-7 and entered service in 1965.
It's has a distinct look with the large front air intake and the arrow-shaped 35° wings - which were a fold-away design that served to reduce the space required on the decks of the aircraft carriers.
The A-7 Corsairs featured a modern head-up display that enabled improved operating efficiency.
The Corsair II had the opportunity to carry an impressive attack weapon typically comprised of free fall bombs, steered paveway bombs and air ground rockets.
The A-7E was the last version built for the US Navy with even better operational performance. The A-7E could use anti-ship rockets Harpoon and Radar control rockets AGM-88 HARM. |
