Ahoy Kits |
| October
22, 2005 |
Tired
of building models, maybe ship models, to an exact detail? Here's
a kit for you. The
Shipwreck. Although, that probably looks like one of my
kits AFTER I build it. LOL.
It's
actually an interesting subject, and if you are into pirate
ships or dioramas, it could be a cool build. Something totally
different.
Here's
a site with some shipwreck subjects. Or get a book for detailing
your model, such as New
Jersey Shipwrecks: 350 years in the Graveyard of the Atlantic,
or a DVD with shipwrecks, National
Geographic - Legendary Shipwrecks.

New Scifi Model Kits |
| October
20, 2005 |
First
up, the Avro 730 British Supersonic Bomber. This kit is a special
offering from Fantastic Plastic.
Check
out this General Atomics
Rq-1A Predator in 1/48 scale from Antares Models. If you
build the kit, be
sure and see the pics from the U.S. Air Force for details.

| Stargate
SG1 Replicators |
| October

Nifty!
Check
out this Replicator from the TV
Series Stargate SG1. It's in 1:1 scale too. It's in kit
form (from Comet Miniatures),
so I am thinking you can probably easily modify it some, maybe
even use two kits to make your own custom Replicator.
The
color of a Replicator depends on the metal it is digesting,
so that means you can paint it almost any color, from rust to
blue to gray.

Scale
Auto Magazine has some pictures from the NNL Toledo event
up on their website, take
a look when your browsing around.

Molds Millennium Falcon |
| October

I've
mentioned this kit a couple of times already in the blog, but
new pictures keep coming up. Here
are some new ones from HobbyLink. The mold detail is amazing.
I wish they had a better shot of the cockpit, I'm curious how
the detail is inside there.
| First
Model - Skyraider |
| October
18, 2005 |
Here
is a pic of the first model I ever built, a Monogram
Skyraider. At least, I think so, that was way back around
1970. (my memory may be a little fuzzy).
I
should find one of these and build it again after all these
years.

Speaking'
of airplanes, how about a 1/32
scale F18/D Hornet kit. Man, now that's huge! Brought to
you by Academy Models.

"A" Production Class 1969 L88 Corvette |
| October
12, 2005 |
Mid
Atlantic Models has just released their SCCA
'A' Production Class
1969 L88 Open Corvette kit. It's a numbered limited edition
issue. They're only making 28 of them, but the bonus is that
they are signed by none other than Tony
DeLorenzo.
Unfortunately
it's not available as a kit, still, for Corvette
enthusiasts, it's a rare item.

Japan |

Hobbylink
Japan has posted some updated
information (and pictures !!) from the 2005 Tokyo Hobby Show.
Including some more pics of the Finemolds
Millennium Falcon. Man, those folks aren't playing around.
That's gonna be one ass kicking model kit!
Also
for Scifi fans, Captain
Scarlett's Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle. There is also a Star
Wars Clone Trooper figure, though not many details are given.
They
also list a lot of Gundum type kits, but I don't know much about
those.
--------
Of
interest to car builders, they show Tamiya's
1/24 Peugeot 307 WRC kit. There is mention of a KITT
car, like the TV show Night Rider. Evidently this one has
working sound. Hmm...a talking model car.
And
of course they mention the American
LaFrance Fire truck, more about that I list below. HobbyLink
has a picture of a mock up in primer, a test shot, so check
that out.

Contests and Event |
| October

Added
a web page to keep track of Model Contests and Events. Check
it out, and see if anything is going on in your neighborhood.
If
the show is an IPMS show, that usually means they have classes
for all kinds of models, from cars to planes to scifi and military.
You can get an all rounded education by seeing a show like that.
Learning model tips you never heard of before.
Whatever
kind of models you build they usually have something for everyone.

2002 American LaFrance Fire truck Model Kit |
| October

Jairus
Watson, who is both an illustrator and modeler, has done some
new work for the model company Trumpeter.
Specifically the box art.
Considering
there are, well, basically, few modern fire truck model kits
out there, I suspect this will be a very popular kit issued.
| Volvo
Wrecker |
| October
1, 2005 |
Adam
over at ModeltruckMafia has built
an amazing Volvo Wrecker. This truly is a one of a kind
project. Luckily he has plenty of pictures online so you can
see every angle.
It
just seems to me that the wrecker bed was made for this style
Volvo. It really blends in together, and looks like it was made
for the chassis from the factory.

On
a side note, I happened to catch a show on TV called Hot
Wheels Accelerators.
It
was animated (I am a big fan of animation
and 3D art), and not half bad. Of course, the part that
really interested me was the cars and vehicles. True, it's a
kids show, but if you like cars, it has more action than a watered
down politically correct cup race. The large vehicle, sort of
like a Darth Vader Futureliner,
is actually pretty cool.
If
that's not your cup of tea and you're an adult, maybe Hot
Wax Zombies on Wheels will be a good chaser flick afterwards.
:-)

If
you are a first visitor to the Model Blog, the
September blog has been archived. It is also listed in the
right column if you want to view older postings or look for
something I may have talked about before. If you did not get
a chance to read July and August, I recommend taking a look.
