Unusual Model Kit -- 2007 |
|
Unusual Model Kits for 2007 |
I'm
not sure what this kit is, but it's very unusual. 1/48
T-3 JR Set. My guess is it is some kind of demonstration
team for events in Japan. Still, it's not a kit you see everyday.

USS Enterprise Star Trek Kits 2007 |
|
Star Trek's / AMT USS Enterprise model Kits for 2007 |
Tired
of seeing those older AMT NCC
1701-B, C, D, and E Enterprise kits on the 'bay go for over
$ 100.00? How would you like to get your hands on a new one,
freshly wrapped?
They
have been re released by a company overseas called Platz. Using
the original AMT molds ! Hobyylink in Japans carries them,
so they are not hard to get. The Enterprise E goes for around
$ 62.00 American. Even with shipping, that's probably well below
some collector prices I've seen.

"Big Pig" Resin Chevy COE 2007 |
|
Big Pig Resin COE Truck Body 2007 |
Resin
Motor Replicas has some unusual vehicles, all cast in resin.
But
this "Big
Pig" Chevy COE (Cab Over Engine) is very interesting, there
are so many ways you can go with this body.
If
you want something new and cool to build, this just might be
the project for you! It does require a plastic Chevy pickup
donor kit (no big deal, they are cheap and everywhere). Looks
like it includes new running boards.
Plenty
of room under that hood for just about any engine !

HLJ Hobbylink Models News 2007 |
I
was going to post a bit of news from from HLJ, but they are
moving, and parts of their website is offline. BUT, you still
want to check them out, because
they have a GREAT video talking about the company and the big
move to a new location and building.
If
you ever wondered how a model sales company works on the inside,
take a look ! (Love them Apples !)

|
Jevries Model cars and Toys 2007 |
It
doesn't happen enough, but sometimes model subjects are in the
'news' outside the mainstream modeler's little niche. In this
case, Jevries
was able to show some of his model cars at a college museum.
It's an interesting story, and worth checking out and reading.
The
cars feature moving parts, and can be controlled like a real
lowrider 1:1 car. But they still have a lot of model details
and fantastic paint jobs.

Scratch building an American LaFrance Midmount Tower 21
Fire truck 2007 |
Check
this out: it's a great online
build of a American LaFrance Midmount Tower 21, using the
Trumpeter ALF Pumper kit.
Using
a lathe to make the Allison transmission in plastic is an interesting
idea. The home made photoetch set is also quite amazing.

Creating Surface Detail on Model Kits 2007 |
|
Creating Surface Details on Model kits 2007 |
I
think most of us Scifi modelers
have always had an idea to build a large scale space ship model
project. Let's say, maybe 3 or 4 feet long. Just think of all
the detail and construction possibilities. Not a replica of
something seen in a movie or TV, but just a straight out 100%
creation of our own.
I
have seen several models done this way over the years, and I
always wanted to do one. (but how to make the time, and cover
the expense is an issue).
Which
brings us to this online
creation from The Lyzrd's Stomp and Vanya. This is worth
checking out, especially the steps for making surface detail.
It is a well written article, with plenty of information, illustrations,
and great photos. While done on a Scifi subject, you may be
able to adapt some of the ideas to armor or diorama projects.
The
surface detail is made primarily of flat stock and sheets of
styrene. By building it up in layers and different shapes, just
about anything is possible.
By
the way, when it comes to sheet styrene, here's a tip: For cheap
plentiful sheet stock, a good source is those FOR SALE signs
in the hardware stores. Some are small, 8x10s, but they come
in larger sheets too, about 2 x 3 feet. And are only a few dollars!
Like sheet plastic, they are easy to cut when all you need is
a flat stock piece.

All Japan Plamodel / RadiCon Show 2007 |
|
Hobbylink Japan Gallery // All Japan Plamodel/RadiCon Show
2007 |
Hobbylink
Japan has put up some pictures of the All Japan Plamodel / RadiCon
Show 2007 from last month. I see some interesting kits in
there that catch my eye. The Moebius Voyager for one. An all
new kit of an older release from Aurora. The craft is from the
book Fantastic Voyage by Asimov. (not to be confused with the
movie
of the same name, which had a different submarine, Proteus,
this kit is from the animated show).
Another
interesting kit is a Wave
1/12 scale Power Suit Phase 2. I have seen the movie Starship
Troopers, the live
action one, but I don't remember this suit. I am guessing
it is from the the CGI
animated series (which used to be on TV and was actually
very well done, but disappeared off screen as quickly as it
came on for some reason).
Another
kit, and I may even order this one, is an Aoshima
1/24 Garland from the movie Megazone
23. Obviously an anime offering, but being 1:24 scale, and
with a figure, it might be a fun and different build.
I
have ordered from HobbyLink before, they have great service.
If you want to to do business with an overseas company and get
the kits you want, they can do it. :-)

I-Hobby Show Event 2007 |
|
I Hobby Model Event 2007 |
I
mentioned it last month, but here is a shot of some new kits
from the I-Hobby show from Steve
G. All Mopar here, but they are all new. Dodge
Demon Concept Roadster, 2008 Dodge Challenger, Dodge
Rampage Pickup Truck, and Dodge
Viper SRT10 Coupe.
The
Challenger will be cool. Hopefully the chassis and engine have
a lot of detail. The Rampage truck is interesting, I might build
one if it has an engine. But I can't help feel that doing a
Hemi Dodge Ram 1500 full
size Pickup would have been better, since there are a lot of
owners of those trucks out there. Not to mention the performance
R/T and Daytona versions.
Still,
any new kit is practically a miracle in this day and age, so
it's best to build them while you can !
