Modeler on the Radio 2006 |
Modeling doesn't get a lot of publicity. But here a really
good KDKA radio show interview with Tim Ahlborn. (Click
on the episode show "One Piece at a Time".)
Tim
specializes in heavy
truck models, and gives a good overview of the modeling
hobby, how it is doing, and where it is going. It's a
light, fun interview.
It
appears it is a podcast as well, so you can download it
into iTunes or swap it to your iPod.
If
you want to see Tim's amazing model work, you can visit
his website at www.truckmodeler.com.

Paper Model Kit 2006 |
Some of you modelers may find this interesting. A paper
model of a V-Twin.
You
can actually rotate it and see the pistons / rods going
up and down. There is a small movie that gives you an
idea of how it works. It's about 70% in size to the real
thing, so it's quite large.

Runner Movie Spinner Police car Model Kit 2006 |
Monster's N Motion is releasing a 17-inch Spinner police
car from the Ridley Scott movie Blade Runner.
The
extremely
detailed Spinner car has an interior pilot and Deckard
figure. Made in a rotocast process, this new kit allows
the modeler to light it up or install RC parts.
It
comes with clear vacuform windows and etched detail in
the car body.

Check out Model
Car Magazine's model gallery from the NNL east show.
There are some very nice images of some great kits. Looks
like there's a whole lot of scratch building going on.
There
are some especially good shots of highly detailed engine
bays.
Check them all out !

Dimensions Scale Reference |
I
am not sure how much this can help a modeler, but it's
still interesting. Here
you can see a 1:1 reference, as far as comparison, of
space and starships, from popular TV shows, movies, and
even some Anime.
The
scales used online are based on meter-to-pixel ratios
so that they are accurate on any platform. The background
grid is divided into groups of ten, and larger groups
of one hundred pixels, to allow for easy measurement.

1:3 scale Ferrari 312PB FULLY functional 2006 |
Imagine
a 1:3 scale Ferrari 312PB...entirely
made from scratch. Including a RUNNING engine, lights,
everything fully functional.
Best
of all, check out the video there. You can even see the
engine fire up and hear it run. It's an incredible amount
of work. From one man. Who essentially custom
made and fabricated every single part on
the car.
Amazing.

George Barris Batmobile 1966 Die cast Hot Wheels |
I've
heard some rumors going around, and it looks like it gonna
be official. Hot Wheels is going to release several die
cast cars of the George
Barris 1966 Batmobile.
I
for one hope it is successful, I am sure they will make
a boat load of money. I plan on getting whatever they
offer, having been here before with Danbury Mint. (Click
here to read about that Batmobile ).
Of
course, I have already
built a resin 1/25 scale Batmobile (and have another
one to do). but a die cast one would be great.
Monsters
in Motion has a write up on their site, and for me, I
look forward to cars. According to this product announcement,
the sizes will be 1:64 (traditional Hot Wheels size),
1:43 scale, and 1:18
scale. I find it interesting they skipped 1:25 scale
for some reason.
