Ship Victory Anatomy of the Ship - Forever associated with
Nelson's last battle at Trafalgar, Victory is one of the most
famous ships of all time. An example of the ultimate sailing
warship--the three-decker First Rate--Victory was the most popular
and successful 100-gun ship of the period, the flagship of half
a dozen famous admirals. A pictorial section contains numerous
clear photographs emphasizing close-up and on-board views of
ship equipment and spaces. Three hundred perspective and three-view
drawings, with fully descriptive keys, illustrate every detail
of the ship, including hull construction, masts and yards, armament,
rigging, decoration and fittings. These accurate and totally
comprehensive drawings offer ship buffs, historians, and model
makers a full view of the ship and her position in the development
of the First Rate.
- Aircraft
Carrier Victorious - This book is largely a series of professional
drawing of the ship (122 pages), combined with photographs (15
pages). In addition there is a narrative description of the
construction, modifications, and action life of the ship which
served for more than 30 years and went through numerous refits
as the planes became heavier and faster.
- Anatomy
of Nelson's Ships - Details abound in this marvelous book
by an author steeped in his subject. I felt as if he had been
on the ways at the time of building and relating his observations,
but from the viewpoint of an educating master of this complex
subject. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and can use the details
provided to better my own modeling skills. If you enjoy detail
and want to read about it from the pen of a master of his subject,
buy this book today!
- ARMED
TRANSPORT BOUNTY - This revised edition features accurate,
visually exciting and totally comprehensive drawings. In addition
to these, a color representation of Bounty on the jacket provides
a useful painting guide, on the back of which is a beautifully
folded large scale plan of the ship. The 'Anatomy of the Ship'
series aims to provide the finest documentation of individual
ships and ship types ever published. What makes the series unique
is a complete set of superbly executed line drawings, both the
conventional type of plan as well as explanatory views, with
fully descriptive keys. These are supported by technical details
and a record of the ship's service history.
- At
Close Quarters: PT Boats in the United States Navy - Bulkley
provides a wealth of facts about these motor torpedo boats,
whose vast range of operation covered two oceans as well as
the Mediterranean and the English Channel. Although their primary
mission was to attack surface ships and craft close to shore,
they were also used effectively to lay mines and smoke screens,
to rescue downed aviators, and to carry out intelligence and
raider operations. The author gives special attention to the
crews, paying well-deserved tribute to their heroism, skill,
and sacrifice that helped to win the war. 604 pages. 109 photographs.
7 maps.
- Battleship
Bismarck: Anatomy of the Ship - Most of the book, however,
is composed of drawings, hundreds of drawings showing every
aspect of the ship. Even the inside of the books dust jacket
is used for a large outline drawing. It's a beautiful book.
- Books
on Modeling Ships - various books designed just for the
ship modeler.
- Boat
and Ship Coloring Books
- From Pirates to Seamonsters, great for the little ones.
- Building
The Wooden Fighting Ship - This is a wonderfully illustrated
book on the building of the HMS Thunderer, a 74-gun British
ship-of-the-line. Moore and Dodds have researched the extensive
actual records still available from the construction of this
vessel. Readers are taken through every process of construction,
from wood selection to launching. Beautifully rendered, accurate
line drawings and period draughts are a bonus. There is at least
one black and white picture on each page to clarify an easily
read text. If you build model ships or are interested in the
art of naval shipbuilding at its peak, read this book!
- CAPTAIN
COOK'S ENDEAVOUR - With over 200 perspective and 3-view
drawings, accompanied by in-depth descriptive keys. Features
accurate, visually exciting and totally comprehensive drawings.
In addition to these, a color representation of Endeavor on
the jacket provides a useful painting guide, on the back of
which is a beautifully folded large scale plan of the ship.
- Destroyer
Campbeltown - This book contains the best plans of flushdecker
as I found. I suggest this book for all modelers. Personally
I make a good model from this plans. Some very good quality
photos included in this book are very useful too. Based on plans
of early version of Campbeltown You can make model of almost
all fourpipers as You want.
- Fairmile
'D' Motor Torpedo Boat: Anatomy Of The Ship - The Fairmile
Type D torpedo/gun boat was the most heavily armed coastal vessel
regularly employed by Allied forces in World War II. With a
top speed of 31 knots and an 80-ton displacement, the boat was
a potent force in protecting littoral waterways and was tasked
with performing anti-submarine and mine warfare operations.
This heavily illustrated volume covers the development, armament,
and specifications of the Type D as well as all of the principle
design variations, including long-range air-sea rescue craft.
First published in 1985 and back by popular demand, this reprint
contains a new fold-out large-scale plan of the Fairmile on
the reverse of the book jacket. 324 photographs and illustrations.
- Forgotten
Fleet: The Mothball Navy - A handsomely illustrated history
of the U.S. Navy's mothball fleet, this book takes a rare look
at the so-called fleet behind the fleet, from the end of World
War II to the present. Through brief ship histories and photographs
of the ships and shipyards where they were laid up, the author
tells the story of how these warships were paid off and preserved,
how some were reactivated, and how most left the reserve fleet
to be broken up. Additional photos of the ships in action remind
readers that forgotten though they were while in mothballs,
many had made their marks on history."--
- Imperial
Japanese Navy Aircraft Carriers 1921-45 - The unrivalled
illustrated reference on fighting vehicles, transport and artillery
through the ages. Each volume is illustrated throughout, making
these books uniquely accessible to history enthusiasts of all
ages.
- Modern
U.S. Navy Destroyers - Readers are treated to up-close views
of each of the U.S. Navy's three current destroyer classes.
Each types origins, armaments, and battle histories are accompanied
by specification tables and exclusive color photography. In
addition, there are views of bridges, control rooms, berthing
areas, ammunition magazines, and control rooms.
- Pirate
Ship 1660-1730 - This title redresses the imbalance, conducting
a detailed exploration of the wide variety of pirate vessels
that sailed the high seas during the 'golden age' of piracy
(1690–1730), from gun-bristling warships to smaller craft
such as sloops, brigantines and early schooners. It incorporates
the latest archaeological evidence to produce a fascinating
account of these vessels, detailing their origins, development
and tactical engagement. Packed with contemporary illustrations
and superbly detailed color artwork, the ships of the 'golden
age' are brought vividly to life.
- SHIPS
OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS : Anatomy of the Ship - Many years
of research by Jose Martinez-Hidalgo and his successors into
the Naos and caravels of the 15th and 16th centuries has allowed
a whole new insight into the design and construction of the
famous ships of Columbus. The Anatomy of the Ship series provides
the finest documentation of individual ships and ship types
ever published. What makes the series unique is a complete set
of superbly executed line drawings, both the conventional type
of plan as well as explanatory perspective views, with fully
descriptive keys.
- Spanish
Galleon 1530-1690 - During the middle decade of the 16th
century a new type of sailing vessel emerged, designed to carry
the wealth of the Americas to Spain. This was the galleon, and
over the next century these vessels would serve Spain well as
treasure ships and warships, becoming a symbol of Spanish power
and wealth during the period. The development and construction
of the Spanish galleon are discussed in this book, and the ordnance
and crewing needed to produce and maintain these stately vessels
is covered. The author also examines the role of the galleon
as a treasure ship, and describes how these ships were manned
and fought in action.
- Type
XXI U-Boat - once again, the information is very technical,
very detailed and, by all accounts, very accurate. Under the
first main heading "General arrangement and external appearance"
we have drawing after drawing showing every aspect of the Type
XXI in 1944 itemizing each of the slight changes made as the
vessel evolved throughout the planning and design process. Not
only is the entire hull shown in both elevation, plan and cross-section,
there are individual close-ups showing different aspects of
the bridge layout and deck gun configurations. Then everything
is repeated for the internal features both longitudinally and
by cross section before concluding with a close examination
of the conning tower and Junkers air compressor. Finally the
book includes the internal arrangements and main deck plans
of the "Wilhelm Bauer" - the only Type XXI submarine
to have been restored and which is on display in Bremerhaven.
- Warship
Boneyards - Just as the U.S. Air Force sends obsolete warbirds
to the Arizona desert for storage and disassembly, the U.S.
Navy maintains a number of harbors for its obsolete vessels.
This collection gives enthusiasts an admiral's tour of the naval
storage harbors in Philadelphia, Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, and
Bremerton, Washington, as well as the once-proud fighting vessels
awaiting reassignment, sale, or the cutting torch. Author Kermit
Bonner takes readers through the entire disassembly process
from start to finish, describing in detail how these surplus
cruisers, submarines, destroyers, and aircraft carriers are
scrapped, including more complex processes involving nuclear
submarines.
