This
is an AHM Matz Walther
PPK / P38 "Secret Agent" pistol. Normally
I wouldn't get a gun model, but this was a good addition
to my growing James
Bond kits.
I
am guessing the kit is an Asian release. The US banned toy
guns being made in black, they had to be made in neon colors
to prevent accidental shootings (a smart idea). That's why
you see so many squirt guns in neon colors.
This
kit doesn't really say James Bond on it, but hey, if it's
a secret agent theme, you get the idea. And it is a PPK
/ P38.
The
kit appears to be life size 1.1 scale. This one includes
a silencer, which of course, every secret agent shouldn't
be without.
In
the James
Bond movie Dr. No, Bond receives the Walther to replace
his Beretta (which, according to "M", had jamed
on him previously).
Did
you know?: In the 3rd film, Goldfinger
, this is where Bond starts asking for his martinis "shaken,
not stirred". This line was not used in Ian Fleming's
books, but was added to Goldfinger because Smirnoff (yeah,
THAT Smirnoff, the Vodka folks) sponsored having their product
in the movie (in one scene, you can see cases of Smirnoff
being loaded onto a truck). So of course, a vodka martini
ended up being Bond's drink of choice.
It
was Sean Connery's great acting delivery of the famous line
that made it exactly that: famous.
The
Walther isn't known for a being particularly great gun,
and would probably be largely unheard of it is wasn't made
famous by the Bond franchise.
