did a whole set of vinyl Star
Trek kits. I think they would have sold more of them
if they were molded plastic, but my guess is the vinyl kits
are less expensive kits to produce.
Also,
most figure model kits are vinyl, especially aftermarket
ones. Figure modelers may prefer that.
