- Fageol
& Twin Coach Buses 1922-1956 Photo Archive - An innovator
in the bus business, Fageol was the first company to build a
bus from the ground up, and it was called the Safety Coach.
Later in 1927 the Fageol brothers sold out and began Twin Coach.
They then built the Model 40 Twin Coach – a twin engine
city bus that began the city bus business. This bus operated
for up to 20 years in many cities – a rarity at the time.
In 1960 Twin Coach was bought by Flxible. Period photos, with
detailed captions, tell the story of these buses. This is a
book bus enthusiasts won't want to miss.
- Flxible
Intercity Buses: 1924-1970 Photo Archive - Hugo Young founded
the Flxible Side Car Company in 1913 in Loudonville, Ohio. In
the early 1920s, the mass production of automobiles lowered
their cost to the point where sidecar-equipped motorcycles could
no longer compete. The Flxible Company used this challenge as
an opportunity to enter the bus-building business. The first
Flxible bus was built in 1924, and was among only a few Flxibles
built in the 1920s. The real boost in Flxible's bus production
came in 1936 with the introduction of the Flxible Airway coach,
mounted on a Chevrolet truck chassis. Read and see photos of
the Flxible Airway coaches and other Flxible intercity buses
like the Clipper, Visicoach, C-37, Starliner, Vistaliner, Hi-level
models, Flxliner, and more.

behemoths that would be at home tearing about madly in a
science fiction movie set on Mars in the 39th century.
- GM
Intercity Coaches 1944-1980 Photo Archive - During 1943,
General Motors purchased the minority interest in Yellow Truck
& Coach Manufacturing Co., and effective October 1, 1943,
Yellow became a division of GM under the name GM Truck &
Coach Division. It is the coaches of this latter company that
are discussed in this book.
- Heavy
Equipment - A big book describes big machines, providing
eye-popping pictures of the monsters at work and good explanations
of how they lift, dig, crush, mine, push earth and carry huge
loads. One learns that the Komatsu 575A-2, pictured on page
21, is the world's largest bulldozer, capable of moving 90 cubic
yards of dirt with a single shove. And that a massive, electric
mining shovel needs a 7,200-volt power supply and, working 450
hours a month, will consume 430,000 kilowatts of electricity
at a cost of $30,000. David J. Bowler, who operates several
kinds of heavy equipment, gives the reader a sense of the skill
and care required: "The day I think I know everything about
running a crane is the day I'm going to get into trouble. Every
job is different. You've got to know your load and you've got
to know the machine's limit."

- Who

all the sponsors that they had, but it would be a little bit
harder to be as out of reach today especially if you had to
report to the man. This book is fun and exciting and reason
