Aoshima Toyota
4-Runner Model Kit by Alvin L.

I
wanted to build this kit due to the fact that I actually own
a blue 1990 4Runner and this kit allowed me to see what my
truck would look like with a lift kit and bigger tires.
I
started with an Aoshima 1/24 scale kit, the plastic rear springs
were thrown away and I made my own out of brass rod, coiling
it around a tube, I compressed one spring and expanded the
other to give the effect of climbing over rocks.
The
shocks were also scratch built with one compressed and one
expanded. The lower front control arms were cut out of the
molded subframe and repositioned with one up and one down.
The body was primed with Duplicolor and the Duplicolor blue
paint was used, then the paint was wet sanded to fade the
paint.Any
dents you can see on this model are actually on the real thing.
The
interior was painted with suede paint to add texture. When
the model was finished I laid it on its roof and from about
4ft away I sprayed tan suede paint to give the effect of splattering
mud from underneath.
The
rest of the weathering was done using some dry brushing and
Tamiya pastels.
