This
is a Polar Lights Pontiac
GTO Drift race car kit. It is 1/25 scale.
Polar
Lights makes several versions, this one has tampo printing
on it. I wanted to do one of these, since the paint job is
complicated, and I liked the design and color anyway. Probably
saved $ 6.00 for paint too.
The
kit is a snap kit, but the fitment is very good, and the kit
has a full suspension, engine, and interior. Plenty of room
for detailing.
The
directions they provide are not that great, simply a blow
up piece diagram. It is hard to know what order to assemble
parts. Several times I had to take something apart because
I assembled them in the wrong order. One part I left out was
the back sway bar simply because I could not figure out what
way it went on and lost patience with it.
The
kit is assembled with parts out of the box. The only things
I added are the Simpson decals to the seats, and the front
lower air dam I made from flat plastic stock. Everything else
came with the kit.
It
was a fun build.
-----
If
I built another race car version, things I would do over are:
1.
Change the seats to a true racing seat. I painted the stock
seats red to give the illusion of a race option.
2.
Maybe change the rims to ones you can see through, with maybe
photoetch rotors. The PL ones have a back plate which prevents
seeing through, and the rotors and calipers are a basic representation.
3.
Do more engine detailing, such as dremeling out the battery
and adding a more practical racing engine bay.
4.
Fill in the fog/driving light holes in the front fascia and
making that look more like the race front end.
5.
Add a roll cage. I did not have a roll cage handy, and did
not have the stock to make one, so I skipped it in this build.
6.
Maybe remove the rear seat, though some drift cars seem to
retain that. Might depend on the classes.
7.
Modify the suspension a bit to lower the car.
Overall
I think Polar Lights did a great job.
