AMT Fireball 500 Model Kit

fireball 500

AMT Fireball 500. This car was built by George Barris for the movie of the same name, starring Frankie Avalon.

The background looks familiar to me, and being AMT, it looks like a reused alien planet from a Star Trek model kit box background.

This kit also features the same wheels that Barris used on the 1966 Batmobile, and some modelers raid these kits just for those wheels.

Fireball 500/Thunder Alley

  • Dodge Challenger & Plymouth Barracuda - Designed by Chrysler, the Plymouth Barracuda and Dodge Challenger went on to become two of the most revered muscle cars. Modern color photos of the finest Barracudas and Challengers in existence are accompanied by the cars design and production histories. All drive train, special package, and engine options are detailed, and readers get the whole low-down on legendary power plants.
  • Fireball 500/Thunder Alley - "Fireball 500" can be considered the last of the Beach Party films since it was directed by William Asher and features Frankie Avalon, Annette and Harvey Lembeck except they aren't close to their normal surf and sand creations. Lembeck is no longer nutty biker Erik Von Zipper. He's a Southern bootlegger who also deals in racing. Frankie plays a racecar driver working his way down to Daytona. These are the early days of NASCAR before sponsors made life so much easier for the drivers. So instead of getting cash from Budweiser like Dale Jr., Frankie scores extra bucks by hauling moonshine for Lembeck.
  • Barracuda & Challenger Muscle Car Color History - Excellent book for visual identification of 1964-1974 cars. Text is somewhat general in content, but clear and easy to read. Book also gives production figures broken down by models for each year--a nice extra!
  • Challenger & Barracuda Restoration Guide, 1967-1974 - This book provides valuable illustrations and photos of these beautiful automobiles, and also some of the little known details that can help make your restoration complete.
Extremely useful for coming to understand the different options that were available for your model year, and more importantly, those little things that were unique to a particular year model.
  • Big Book of George Barris Book - Beginning with details of the lucrative partnership between George, and his brother, Sam, The Big Book of Barris goes on to describe and showcase the very best hot rods, motorcycles, trucks, and boats built at the famous California-based Barris Kustom Kar Shop.
