- Zero
- Japans Legendary WWII Fighter: Combat and Development History
of Japan's Legendary Mitsubishi A6M Zero Fighter - The most
in-depth combat and development history of the Japanese Zero ever
assembled! This superb history is told through first-person interviews
with Zero pilots and the U.S. airmen who fought against them.
Includes cutaway drawings, serial number lists, detailed appendices,
and a registry of surviving planes. Contains exquisite cutaway
drawings by Rukyu Watanabe. Foreword by Saburo Sakai.
- Shot
to Hell: Stories and the Photos of Ravaged WWII Warbirds -
Most of the photos in this fascinating collection have never before
been published, they are well reproduced, and the captions are
crisp and infomative. Plus I could not find one error of fact.
People who read this sort of material know that in itself is an
achievement! Although this is mostly a picture book, the accompanying
text flows smoothly and provides a good sense of the times.
- On
Miniature Wings: Model Aircraft of the National Air and Space
Museum
- A lifelong aviation enthusiast and modeler,
Tom Dietz joined the staff of the National Air and Space Museum's
Aeronautics Department in 1987, as part of the curatorial team
for Legend, Memory, and the Great War in the Air, a World War
I exhibit. Since then, he has contributed to exhibits on World
War II air power and Cold War naval aviation.
- Japanese
Aircraft of the Pacific War - This work is simply the best
available on Japanese warplanes. All major and minor types are
detailed, including each model's varients. The detail is incredible.
There is a weapons section that details Japanese aircraft mounted
guns and ammunition. There are plenty of good black and white
photos and good 3-view drawings. This book is a must for the WWII
aircraft afficianado.
- Meatballs
and Dead Birds: A Photo Gallery of Destroyed Japanese Aircraft
in World War II
- In this expanded edition of the 1972 classic,
James Gallagher presents his collection of photographs of downed
Japanese aircraft chronicling the final days of World War II through
the lens of an American serviceman. Snapped by the author, a communications
officer with the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific islands, these
stunning photos cover all manner of aircraft, from the infamous
"Zero" carrier fighter to the "Betty" bomber.
Also listed are specifications and technical data for a number
of planes, making the book a valuable addition to the air or military
enthusiast's library.
