OK, here we go. First I masked it and painted the body color, "Phoenician Yellow". I used the new Model Master Lacquer. I used no primer, I layed on the lacquer real slow. This paint is great stuff.

Then I masked off everything but the roof.

Then I painted the roof brown with dull lacquer overcoat so that under the canvas

it would be wood color. More on this later.

To get the canvas look use toilet paper. The cheap stuff with no quilting pattern, two ply. It's real hard to find, "swipe" a few pieces from the local service station camode. Only use ONE of the two plys.

You must use oil base paint for this. If you touch the toilet paper with water based paint it WILL dissolve in seconds..!!!!!

Paint over the paper as you go and the paper will stick right on the car. Use gloss paint and it will end up semi-gloss. Only use one coat of paint. Don't repaint any areas or you will end up with areas with different textures. It won't look uniform. Flat paint will work but it will turn out really flat when it drys. I'll flatten up the paint later.

As I was laying down the gloss black, it started to dissolve the brown a little. This was the first time I ever tried an under coat with this technique. It still came out looking good.

Now as it's drying you can press it down at the seams and corners. Gloss drys slow so you have some time here. I cut the edges so it would fit around the curves. As it's drying you can press it down and where you cut it, the cut and flap will almost dissapear. Of course you will get paint all over your hands.

I also added some patches to make it look like some cheap repairs have been done. I painted these patches twice so that they would be more glossy.

Then I added some pastel dust. I just added a TINY bit with an old paint brush. A little dust goes a long way on this canvas. I used white and light brown pastel dust.

Now it's time to mess up the canvas. Peal up a spot. The brown I used earlier showed up..!!!! But I still needed to paint a little brown under the flap. Lay down the flap a little over the wet brown paint.

It's hard to appreciate how real the canvas looks in this picture. Try it sometime, you'll like it...... Now it's time to paint some wood....
