Well, one day the owner of this woody was putting his surfboard
in his woody. And he accidentally broke the dome light glass.
And then of course after 56 years of vibration the little
bracket that holds the dome light bulb finally broke.
So the
light bulb still works, but it hangs down a little. The owner
would fix it but he’s too busy surfing……
To
make the bulb I stretched some clear sprue over a flame. I
cut it and polished the end so that it was rounded. I then
wrapped some gold bare metal foil around it with the round
end sticking out.
I glued
a black and a red wire to it and hung it from the light base.
It’s hard to get good pictures of something so small.
It may be that no one ever notices this detail....... But
I'll know...
I
always have lots of fun making the little details.
On the
left is a gas can from an old jeep kit. I used masking tape
for the belt. The CB set is from the 84 GMC Pickup kit.
I made a new microphone and cord. The cord is wire wound around
a small drill.
The binoculars were sent to me by Rich in Las Vegas (a board
member and good friend). I made the strap from masking tape.
The lens is gloss black, Alclad chrome and thinned clear blue
Tamiya.
The
surfing magazines were printed off the internet and shrunk.
The laptop computer came from the new 49 Mercury kit. The
surfer that owns this woody will have a laptop on his front
seat. I added a wireless internet connection to it so he can
get the most updated surfing and weather conditions while
on his surfing safari...
Here
are pictures with the interior junk installed.
I
tried to make a real looking wet suit, but it was difficult.
Then I realized the guy would just throw it in the back in
a crumpled mess anyway.
So the
wet suit I made came out OK. It is made from some very
thin tightly compressed black foam rubber I have in my misc.
junk box.
( I love
those misc. junk boxes..!!! )
Another interior
picture.
Some
of the guys on the Hobby
Heaven Board suggested that I add some surf board wax
and ZigZag papers. So I went back to the internet to
find pictures and I shrunk some pictures and printed them
out.
The surfboard
wax was made using clear window glass that I cut like a hockey
puck and then I sanded it to look like wax. Then I glued
the picture of the wax on the plastic. Here is the wax
and ZigZag papers with my surfer girl.....
Here
are three more pictures with the surf board wax and ZigZags
installed. Please, don't ask me why I added the ZigZags.
I guess I did it just for the challange......
