Now you know how
to hook your computer up
to Garage band, and you've had some time to play around
with the different setups and tones, you want more.
So
in this section, we are going to create a band to play with
using loops.
First,
we need to take a look at the Loop Browser.
Let's
say you have the Garage project open, like our screenshot
below:
Garageband
has quite a few music instrument loops built into it. To
open and look at those, in the top menu on your computer,
go: Control, then choose, "Show Loop Browser".
Now
you will see the loop categories, listed on the right side
of your window.
(Don't
panic, you can bring the Amp and pedals back by going back
to the menu and use: Track, then choose: "Show
Track Info".)
For
simplicity, let's say you want a drum track for your guitar
playing. From the loop browser, choose the category: Kits.
Now
from the list that will appear, choose: Modern Rock Drums
01. If you double click on it, you can here what it
sounds like. Double click on it again and it will stop.
To
use this drum track, simply DRAG
it to the left, to just underneath your guitar track, then
let go of it. That's all you have to do to add a loop track.
It will look like the image just below:
Notice
the light blue portion, that is the loop / track. If you
click on the PLAY arrow at the bottom of the screen (like
a DVD player) it will play the loop.
It's
a bit short here, but we want it to play longer. With your
mouse, put it just in the the upper right corner of the
light blue, and you will see the cursor change to a rounded
arrow.
Now
click your mouse, hold it down, and drag the strip to
your right. You can drag it as long as you like.
The
number portions you see at the top, like a ruler, are time
measures, and in this case, represent 4 beats (4/4).
Click
the play button again, and you can see it will play the
loop over and over till the end.
Dont
Forget ! To hear your guitar, you must have
that track active. Notice below the active track is the
blue one, the drums are glowing. That's why you hear that
loop. To hear your guitar again while you play, you must
click on that one (notice ABOVE that the guitar track is
active, and has a glow around it).
Once
your guitar track is active, you can use the play button.
It will play the drum track, but you can also hear your
guitar playing ALONG WITH the drum track at the same time.
Cool !
Adjust
the volumes on the individual tracks if needed.
To
add more loops, just listen to them, pick one, and drag
them over. A Bass line loop would be good. Play around with
it and you can play along with a musical band of your own!
Guitar
Amplifier Handbook - Understanding Tube Amplifiers and Getting
Great Sounds - A guitar amp is as responsible for the
actual sound of an electric guitar as the guitar itself. The
Guitar Amp Handbook takes players — whether novice,
experienced amateur, or professional — inside the amplifier
to help them better understand the magic of that mysterious,
often-neglected box that pumps out all the tone. This book
guides guitarists in selecting the best amplifier for their
style of music, and helps them set up that amp to sound its
best, maintain and modify it, and ultimately to craft the
most responsive instrument possible from this "other
half" of the sound chain. Tutorials, parts lists, basic
maintenance, and diagrams for building a small range of classic-style
tube amps are included. Also featured are tricks for getting
"loud" guitar sounds at home without waking the
neighbors and tips on how to get the unit that best suits
your sound and technique without overspending on unnecessary
features.
1970s
Rock TrackPak: Apple Loops for GarageBand and Logic -
We've taken 12 of the most famous classic rock tunes of the
1970s and set them up for you to mix, loop, cut, edit, and
play along with any way you please using the power and flexibility
of GarageBand. Each song includes loops for each instrument,
plus the complete tracks! You can take just the drums from
Tom Petty's "American Girl" or the guitar riff from
Van Halen's "Runnin' with the Devil," and loop them,
remix them, or drop them into your own projects. The only
limit is your creativity! Other songs include: All Right Now
(Free) * Beast of Burden (The Rolling Stones) * Breathe (Pink
Floyd) * Gimme Three Steps (Lynyrd Skynyrd) * Ramblin' Man
(The Allman Brothers) * and more. GarageBand has been named
the Product of the Year by Music Trades magazine!
