Art
of Robots -
If you are a fan of the Art of Pixar books, Robots
is easily on par. It has some of the most talented, amazing and
awe-inspiring pre-vis work I have ever seen in an art book. The
entire Robots world is contained inside these pages, its entire
evolution plotted out with hundreds of drawings, paintings and
sculptures.
Art
of the Matrix -
Illustrating the arduous production process, this hefty tribute
showcases everything from Steve and Andy Wachowski's original
stick figure sketches to the conceptual designs and dynamic, scene-by-scene
storyboards (drawn and commented on by Geof Darrow, Steve Skroce
and Tani Kunitake) that convinced Warner Bros. to green-light
the project. Although some stunts, like Trinity's dive into a
window from the top of a moving El train, were aborted because
of safety and budgetary concerns, the movie closely mirrors the
seamless narrative of the story boards. In addition to the visuals,
this comprehensive volume includes a final draft of the shooting
script as well as scene notes and deleted script excerpts provided
by Phil Oosterhouse, assistant to the Wachowski brothers.
CGI:
The Art of the 3d Computer-Generated Image -
The computer-generated image (CGI) is one of the most astounding
developments in the rapidly evolving field of digital technology.
It allows for the creation of make-believe worlds and characters
that are so realistic they fool the eye and the mind. Lord of
the Rings, Gladiator, and feature-length 3D animations like Toy
Story and Ice Age-films that have left audiences speechless, forever
altering our expectations of what a movie can represent-owe their
distinctive details, or even their entire creation, to computer-generated
imaging. This spectacularly illustrated volume is the first book
to consider CGI, from big-screen effects to full-length animated
films, from games to fine art, as the art form of the 21st century.
250 examples of their astonishing work in glorious reproductions.
Robots:
Spaceships and Other Tin Toys -
Tin toy mania! Now that computer games have come to stay, tin
toys have become obsolete for today's children. For those of us
who remember them from times past, these tin toys can transport
us back to our childhoods; they call up a vision of a time we
thought we had already forgotten. They also bear witness to history;
they have survived wars and crises, and tell us something of the
fashions, colors and tendencies of their times. This book will
be of special interest to anyone fascinated by early space travel
and technology, those who simply want to wax nostalgic about a
bygone era of their youth, and of course to collectors and fans
of 50s and 60s tin toys. The roots of today's toys can be seen
in these precursors, notably in the early transformer robots.
Taken from collector Teruhisa Kitahara's vast collection, which
is on display in many museums in Japan, the tin toys featured
here are quite rare and give a wonderful overview of this era
in the history of toys. A must for any toy lover!
