Not all modellers share their hobby. Meaning, most of their co workers or people they meet probably don't even know they are a builder. I recommend you mention it to everyone you meet, because you never know who might be in the same hobby, or who might just have a few models lying around ready to be build by a modeler...like you.

For instance, a family member on my new sister-in-law side mentioned to my brother, that he had a few models. My brother does not really build anymore (though he did as a kid), so of course, he suggested that I may want them. Indeed I did !

While I don't usually build sailing ship models, the recent Pirate movies from the last few years has sparked my interest in building one. So now, thanks to a gracios relative, I have THREE kits to choose from and build. What a find !

So be sure everyone is aware of your hobby. You never know when there might be a few models out there that are looking for a new home... with you ! :-)

Dragon / Cyber-Hobby has released it's new 1/350 U.S.S. Independence LCS-2 ship model.

The kit includes decals, photoetch, and 3 helicopters. The hanger doors can be posed open or closed.

The sharp and angular silhouette of the ship is captured perfectly in this newly tooled model, with the complicated shape truly reproduced thanks to the use of detailed CAD drawings. Slide-mold technology is widely employed, which has major benefits for the assembly process. The deck and bridge, for example, are made from a single injected piece of plastic. Modelers can also elect to produce a waterline or full-hull version of the ship. Naturally, the kit includes an MH-60S helicopter that can even be taxied into the hangar. In addition to the hangar that can be shown open, the hull-side and stern doors can also be displayed open or closed depending on the modeler's choice. Plus there is a generous selection of photo-etched parts to finish off this fine model.

USS Independence (LCS-2) is a revolutionary ship in the modern-day US Navy fleet. Indeed, it is a prototypical design in the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program that will eventually see dozens of ships added to the USN inventory. The vessel is based on an Australian-designed trimaran hull that was developed and built by a consortium led by General Dynamics. The unique 127m-long trimaran configuration allows a top speed of more than 74km/h. USS Independence, optimized as a small assault transport vessel, operates with a crew of 40 sailors.

This looks to be a great kit to build, especially since they already supply the photoetch (and you don't have to purchase that separate at added cost). On the real ship, the sides of the hull have an almost "aztec" style texture to them. It will be interesng to see how builders come up with ideas to accomplish that look.
