After some time off, I have now added Formula One model kits once again. For a while, there were not many kits available, but it seems they are coming back, and I am glad to see them. So after a few requests, Formula One kits now have their own page.

Of course they are in their popular 1:20 scale, with a few larger 1:12 kits also available at this time. Tamiya, Revell, and even Hasegawa have a few issues to keep you busy building. (hey, I'm a Ferrari fan myself).

So check them out and if you feel the need for some serious speed, grab them while you can.

Ford Cobra Daytona. It's been a model Ford builders have wanted for years.

It's been done in 1:43 scale, in a plastic or slot car kit. Gunze Sangyo did a very good 1:24 curbside kit, which included metal parts. Recently, Scale Motorsports has produced a great 1:24 curbside in resin. But of course, what modelers want, is a full detail kit. The cars are historic, the real ones worth millions of dollars. Now it looks like Academy Models just might all those modeler's wishes come true.

Check out this Academy Europe site. Look through the catalog there, just grab a page and turn it, like a book. And right there, on page 29, is a 1:24 scale Daytona Coupe. Is it all new? A reissue of the Gunze Sangyo kit? Details are sketchy at this point. As of this writing, there is no mention of it on the main Academy Site. Still, it's worth noting, and keeping an eye out for more news on this model car kit.

In the past, when it came to drag racing model kits, especially in the 1970's, you were probably building Revell kits. Whether it was a 1:25 or 1:16 big scale kit, from funny cars to dragsters, you had something on the model bench that was made to go fast. Cars from teams like Snake & Mongoose, The Hawaiian, or Jungle Jim and many others. Those that remember those days know how Revell was providing sponsorship to real drag teams on the track and in the series.

Early drag racing subjects have been kind of slim these past few years. Thankfully Model King issued some great kits that hadn't seen the light of day in 30+ years, but let's face it, you can never have enough floppers or rails to build in your growing model stash.

But old times are here again! Like the glory days of drag racing, NHRA and Revell have gotten together to release some drag racing its just for you !

Usually when you see a Ferrari, typically it is the famous Italian red. But sometimes they do get painted other colors (Belgium Yellow comes to mind), especially on race cars. Those to me make some of the most interesting builds.

Fujimi has released another version of their 1:24 scale Ferrari 250GTO, a 3445GT kit. The blue and yellow combination makes for a great model example. And there are 188 crisp parts to keep you busy.

The cars had a racing history, but in those times, Ferrari's, like most race cars, were just cars to be driven and raced. No one expected them to be worth the millions they are today. According to coachbuilder.com, in 1963 the 3445GT car was raced by Ulf Norinder and painted blue with yellow central stripe, Norinder's swedish colors. "..Modifiying and rebodying competition cars was not uncommon those days. 250 GTO #3445GT has had a very succesful racing career and the body had taken quite a few hits in the normal course of some very active racing..".

This is a nice kit to build to get your Ferrari fix, and allows you to add a distinct new color to your kit collection.
