This is the reference section for the model aircraft builders, from biplanes to jets, civilian to military. Here you can find information to help detail out your models to look like the real thing.
  • 21st Century Warplanes: The World's Most Potent Military Aircraft - Take the controls of the most incredible warplanes in the skies today! Crawford checks you out in the extraordinary B-1 and B-2 stealth bombers, the fabulous F-16 Fighting Falcon, the furious F-15 Eagle, and the tenacious F-14 Tomcat for an information-packed review of their awesome capabilities. Details of the Tornados, Mirages, Harriers, and the new Euro fighter Typhoons that headline NATO's airborne defense network are also examined.
  • Aeroplane Monthly - The lively and authoritative magazine features aviation history, preservation, nostalgia and personal recollections from pilots and ground crew. Aeroplane appeals to enthusiasts of all ages who are hungry for information, events and services to feed their passion for the "golden age" of flying.
  • Allied Aircraft Piston Engines of World War II: History and Development of Frontline Aircraft Piston Engines Produced by Great Britain and the United Kingdom - This books treatment of the technical aspects of WWII aircraft engines is nothing short of fantastic! Mr. White appears to be very knowledgeable (right down to the nuts & bolts level) in the development of these engines and their service histories. His use of contemporary references adds great authority to the work. Besides the fine technological details and engineering drawings, the book goes into the details of how the mating of certain engines with certain airframes resulted in aircraft with a certain look or performance (or, sometimes, under performance).
  • An Illustrated Anatomy of the World's Fighters: The Inside Story of over 100 Classics in the Evolution of Fighter Aircraft - An Illustrated Anatomy of the World's Fighters: The Inside Story of over 100 Classics in the Evolution of Fighter Aircraft.
  • Air Classics - Contains historical accounts by the men who lived in the belly of a B-17 bomber or in the cockpit of a P-51 Mustang. Also provides photographs of historic aircraft and air battles.
  • Aircraft Carriers: The World's Greatest Naval Vessels and their Aircraft Reference Book - With its emergence at the end of World War I, the aircraft carrier quickly established itself as the centerpiece of any naval flotilla. Aircraft carriers’ dominance at sea was marked by the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Since then aircraft carriers have been the yardstick by which any navy's potency is measured. Aircraft Carriers is a comprehensive guide to the carriers that have been built since the end of World War I.
  • Air Forces - Includes current news on all aspects of military aviation including the world's 'hotspots' and reports on the strengths of international air forces, their conflicts, weaponry and exercises. Provides insight into the latest military technology and offers a feedback section and color photography.
  • Aircraft of World War II The Aviation Fact file - From the start of World War II, in 1939, to its conclusion six years later, military aircraft developed from prewar biplanes such as the Gloster Gladiator, to classic aircraft-the Messerschmitt Me 109 and the P-51 Mustang-and on to the age of jet warplanes-the Arado Ar 234 and the Gloster Meteor. 600 color and archival photographs perfectly showcase the length and design of each entry. Presented here in mesmerizing detail, these artifacts from the world's first major air battles will fascinate both WWII and military aircraft buffs alike.
  • Aircraft Nose Art from World War I to Today - Ethell and Simonsen combine their knowledge to reveal stories behind the greatest nose art of all time.
  • Air Force One: The Aircraft that Shaped the Modern Presidency - This compelling history of presidential air transportation begins with the first president to fly (and to fly abroad, and to have a special plane): FDR. Eisenhower and Truman both had dedicated prop planes, but JFK took the leap into the jet age with the 707 that had the grimmest task of any Air Force One-bringing his body home from Dallas. Other Air Force Ones have had less well-known dramas: Lyndon Johnson's impromptu around-the-world flight in 1967, Richard Nixon's last departure from Washington and Bush's escorted, circuitous route home after 9/11. But mostly the 707s and their successors the 747s have made the president accessible to the world and vice versa, without having to be out of touch with his responsibilities or reducing his security. The price of this is imposing; a double-page spread shows the logistics of a major presidential journey abroad.
  • Air & Space - This magazine's editorial emphasis celebrates the human fascination with and increasing dependence on the sky. It explores the ways flight continues to change the world and features the people, places, issues and innovations of the air age. • At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Book of Cockpits - The photographs are excellent ... This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the evolution of aircraft.
  • At the Edge of Space: The X-15 Flight Program - Initiated in the 1950s, the X-15 program tested a unique rocket-powered aircraft at supersonic speeds in the atmosphere's outer limits. The stubby-winged, needle-nosed craft achieved speeds of 4000 mph, could fly at altitudes of well over 200,000 feet and yielded data crucial to NASA's space missions. Thomson, one of the test pilots, traces the technical developments of the program, emphasizing the viewpoint of the men who (barely) controlled the unpredictable plane in the air. He demonstrates through a series of vivid anecdotes the effect of g forces, extreme vertigo and other mental and physical problems associated with supersonic flight.

Long cloaked in secrecy, that tale comes to life in the pages of this history.
  • Biplanes, Triplanes and Seaplanes - Biplanes and seaplanes dominated early aviation. The flying surfaces on biplanes added strength to the structure and provided extra lift to compensate for comparatively small engines, while seaplanes were favored for the unlimited space water provided for long take-off runs. This is an extensive guide to more than 120 biplanes, triplanes, and seaplanes, from early designs such as the Wright Flyer to jet flying boats and timeless classics like the Tiger Moth and the Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny." 600 color and archival black-and-white photographs are featured in this extraordinary book.

  • Cockpit: An Illustrated History of W W II Aircraft Interiors - The aircraft designed and built during the crisis of war were marvels of technology and ingenuity, but they were hardly built for comfort. Nor did they offer more than a thin sheet of aluminum and glass as protection from the hostile environment at 30,000 feet. COCPIT details the cockpits and aircraft of a classic period in the development and perfection of propeller-driven aircraft and the beginning of jet aviation.
  • Combat Aircraft - Serves the needs of aviation professionals or enthusiasts of combat aircraft. Provides detailed articles on varying makes and models, picture galleries, formations, tactics and air shows.
